Honourable Chevaliers of Orders,
Dear Guests,
Wellbeing of the Republic of Estonia to a large extent depends on people committed to Estonia. Estonia thanks them. Independent Estonia, first and foremost, is a mission and creative work. It is not granted to Estonia to be grand in terms of size, thus, it is our obligation to be grand in terms of spirit. And so, we thank those who have shared in bearing with us this obligation.
Estonia thanks Minister Max Jakobson. You have been capable of seeing and analysing boundaries drawn on the water, but which have great importance in politics and in international relations. You have shared you intellectual capacity with Estonia. The international commission led by you has done a very good job. Please accept our heartfelt acknowledgement for this.
Honourable Hindrek Peeter Meri, you have been an Estonian state official in the best, classical sense of this concept. You have made us believe that the Estonian state is our common responsibility. As the restorer of one of the key institutions of our state - the State Audit Office - you formed a school. Our younger generation of officials growing and taking shape have a firm basis whence to move forward.
Actress Linda Rummo is one of the grand ladies of the Estonian theatre, whose stage life is a part of the Estonian theatre history like the life's work of Liina Reimann. Without the roles of Linda Rummo the face of the contemporary Estonian theatre would be much poorer. I am sure that all present-day actresses of Estonian theatre are more or less Linda Rummo`s intellectual heiresses. Linda Rummo's theatrical wisdom, talent and education have influenced all of them.
Revered Bishop Einar Soone, you have belonged to the leaders of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years. For many years, also during the occupation, you have stood up for preserving and promoting most vital spiritual values. You have stood up for our church to survive, our spiritual education to continue and to advance. We thank you.
Estonia thanks Ants Järvesaar. You were one of those 67 who legalized the restoration of the Estonian state. Estonia thanks Ants Tammleht. Owing to you and your colleagues our local governments were reinstated immediately after it became possible again.
Honourable Chevaliers of Orders, please accept the heartfelt acknowledgement of the Republic of Estonia.
