Your Excellency,
Mister Ambassador,
I am glad to welcome you as the Ambassador of Austria to Estonia.
We have every reason to be delighted at the development of our bilateral relations. Lots of people in Estonia know your country and the traditions of your culture rather well. As a state recently acceded to the European Union Austria has shared its experiences with us. For this we are very grateful to you.
The opening of your Embassy in Tallinn a few years ago, presentation of Austria in our mass media, several cultural events, and contacts between our arts people becoming more frequent, have brought our nations considerably closer.
A great number of high-level visits between Estonia and Austria have taken place and next year will offer us pleasing opportunities for this as well. I am glad to inform you that already next spring, in April, I am expecting the President of Austria Thomas Klestil, LL.D. to visit Estonia.
The economic relations between Estonia and Austria have made a significant progress but certainly, there are still plenty of possibilities for further developments. Above all, the exchange of business delegations and identification of chances for mutual investments would contribute to contacts between entrepreneurs and to the growth of trade.
The views of Estonia and Austria on the ways of ensuring stability and prosperity in Europe are alike. Estonia appreciates highly Austrian activities during its presidency in the OSCE in 2000 and especially its contribution to working out the strategy of withdrawing the OSCE missions. The present case of Estonia proves the relevance of this strategy.
I am confident that Estonia and Austria will find in coming years many opportunities to offer each other a friendly hand and to co-operate with each other.

The friendly and substantial co-operation between our two countries allows me to count on a rapid and fruitful development of our relations in the future as well.
