Your Excellency, Madam ambassador,
I am pleased to welcome you as an ambassador of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Estonia.
Contacts between Estonia and China have developed very rapidly during the last ten years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. Despite of the geographical distance Estonia and China have developed a number of common interests in bilateral relations and international issues.
As the President of the Republic of Estonia it is my pleasure to thank you for the support to Estonia's sovereignty and political choices. Estonia in its turn recognises the sovereignty of China and pursues the policy of one China in its international relations.
I sincerely congratulate you on China's accession to the World Trade Organisation that will definitely have a favourable impact on the further development of trade relations between our countries. As members of the significant world organisation our countries will have better possibilities to develop bilateral trade.
The cultural exchange between Estonia and China is part of a global process where different cultures meet and enhance mutual understanding and interest. I hope that the cultural co-operation between Estonia and China will be fruitful developing as agreed in the multiannual bilateral co-operation programme.
I consider the co-operation of our countries in international organisations very important. Especially now when challenges in globalisation and threat of the international terrorism require joint efforts from the international community. China as a member of the UN Security Council has a demanding and responsible role in this co-operation.
Madam ambassador, friendly and substantial co-operation between our countries allows me to count on rapid and efficient development in future as well.
I wish you success in your mission promoting friendship and co-operation between our countries.
