The President's Cultural Foundation to award three Education Prizes

Tomorrow, on October 5, President Rüütel will hand over the President’s Cultural Foundation’s Education Prizes at Kadriorg. This year three laureates were selected from among 24 nominees.

The Education Prize 2006 to the amount of 50,000 kroons went to Helgi Uudelepp, a teacher of mathematics at the Gustav Adolf Gymnasium; to the amount of 30,000 kroons to Mart Kuurme, a teacher of physics at the Tallinn Secondary Science School; to the amount of 20,000 kroons to Rein Grünbach, a teacher of art at the Viljandi C.R. Jakobson Gymnasium.

Helgi Uudelepp has been working at Gustav Adolf Gymnasium since 1963. As a teacher she has given a lot to the design and enhancement of in-depth learning math classes. She is also an initiator of the competition in the sciences between gymnasiums of Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn. Helgi Uudelepp has published a number of publications and has been an author of assignments of state exams in mathematics since 1996.

Mart Kuurme has been working at Tallinn Secondary Science School since 1976 and has initiated a top-level competition of young physics fans. His students have been successful at Olympiads also in astronomy and natural sciences. He has published around fifty articles in his own column in Magazine Horisont.

Rein Grünbach has been working at Viljandi C. R. Jakobson Gymnasium since 1964 and has also instructed at the art studio. By today more than 50 of his students are working as architects in Estonia and abroad, among them four are teaching in Tallinn Art University. Over the years Rein Grünbach has been a charismatic teacher of art history to about 5000 students.

The Educational Prize was established in 2003 and is awarded to educators at all levels who have distinguished themselves by professional excellence in Estonian educational life as teachers, university teachers, leaders or employees of educational institutions, authors of textbooks or methodological materials, as well as initiators and implementers of practical educational innovations, or as education officials participating in the development of education policy.
