The President of the Republic participated in the closing ceremony of the Executive Assembly of the World Energy Council

President Rüütel today participated in the closing ceremony of the Executive Assembly of the World Energy Council that was held in the garden of Kadriorg Art Museum.

In his greeting address, the President of the Republic noted that the role of the World Energy Council is exceptionally broad and becoming ever more important as the today's world is seeking an answer to the question how to go on. “We have to find a way how to guarantee accessibility of energy resources everywhere in the world while maintaining liveable environment and sustainable development of our planet. Your work in this field so far and your future plans suggest optimism,” President Rüütel said

''Global challenges can and must be solved while acting jointly. Replacement of traditional fuels and working out innovative energy technologies are certainly areas where international cooperation is needed. Estonia wishes and is capable to be an equal partner in that work,'' the Head of State said.

The World Energy Council (WEC) Executive Assembly took place in Tallinn from September 3rd to the 7th, 2006 and for that occasion more than 450 specialists of the field and top business leaders from 95 countries gathered in Estonia. WEC was founded in 1923 and is the foremost world organisation that unites numerous energy sectors. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, the Academy of Science, Tallinn Technical University, AS Eesti Energia and AS Eesti Gaas founded the Estonian National Committee of the World Energy Council on July 16, 2003.
