The President of the Republic recognized the best home decorators
13.08.2006

The President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel were in Võru today, where the Head of State gave recognition to this year’s best home decorators. President Rüütel, who is the patron of the Home Decoration Movement, today, at noon, at Võru Cultural Center ”Kannel” handed over to the winners of the contest ”Beautiful Estonian Home 2006” certificates of honour and symbolic copper keys.

In his greeting address, the President of the Republic thanked all people of Estonia who without saving one’s strength have maintained and preserved family and intergenerational links, and have taken care of their home as a source of creativity and strength. ”Being the initiator of a beautiful tradition, the first Estonia’s president, Konstantin Päts, attached great importance to the role of strong family and well-taken care home in bringing up dignified citizens who by nature possess such features of character as love towards one’s home and homeland, high moral standards, work culture and sense of responsibility. Any country can be happy to have such citizens,” the Head of State noted.

Merike Lang, Director of the Estonian Open-Air Museum, who spoke on behalf of the award recipients said: “Creating a safe feeling of homelyness that includes order, harmony and beauty in its manifold varieties, we can offer security and well-being both to ourselves and to our guests.”

This year was the first time an award was given also to a beautiful industrial landscape, and it was given to Kohtla Mining Park-Museum and Ash Hills and to AS Hansa Graanul. The Beautiful Industrial Landscape Award was supported by the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Estonian Employers’ Confederation.

The Estonian Home Decorators Association selected from amongst contestants: homes, non-residential buildings, villages, rural municipalities and centers, the 80 most beautiful ones. This year’s contest was already the ninth such contest.

The Home Decoration Movement is supported by Husqvarna Estonia and Vivacolor Eesti AS.
