The President of the Republic received the best university graduates
21.06.2006

President Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel received today the best Estonian university graduates in the rose garden of the Residence of the President. 63 university and college graduates from 23 schools had been invited to the reception.

In his address to the graduates, the President of the Republic said that one of the paradoxes of success is that the means that have helped you to reach the top are often not sufficient to keep you there. “You have successfully reached a level where you can find all possibilities to have successful career and successful life. But in order to take full advantage of those possibilities you have to try different new means,” President Rüütel said.

The Head of State stressed that environment in its broadest sense is an important keyword today and most probably even more important tomorrow. “In the future the well-being of people living on our planet will depend to a great extent on the wisdom of your generation. Old means and lifestyles do not solve the situation any more. It is necessary to find radically new solutions, and I would like to call upon you to actively participate in finding and implementing these new solutions,” the President of the Republic added.

The graduates were greeted also by the Minister of Education and Research Mailis Reps. Margit Piirmann from Tartu University spoke on behalf of the graduates.

Students of the Georg Ots Music School Laura Lindpere and Anna-Liisa Eller played zither music at the reception.
