The President of the Republic participated in the final conference of an environmental education project

President Rüütel today participated in the final conference of the Environmental Education Project Ökokratt 2006 “Who lives in water” held in the KUMU Art Museum.

In his greeting address, President Rüütel expressed his satisfaction that lately increasingly more attention has been paid to the Baltic Sea and its protection has become a common concern for the whole region. “An understanding that environmental consciousness is a part of general learnedness and that sustainable lifestyle is the basis of general sustainability has gained more important place in our society,” the President of the Republic said.

”The environment around us needs not only material investments, but, first of all, considerate attitude towards it. We all are capable of that. Such attitude will help to arose interest towards nature and diversity of life, and take pride in our beautiful Estonia,” the Head of State said.

The Environmental Education Project Ökokratt was initiated eight years ago. This year, 170 educational institutions with 19000 children and youth from all over Estonia participated. Also 60 municipalities that were helping and supporting their schools and kindergartens were involved in the activities of the project.
