PRELIMINARY NOTICE: The President of the Republic to participate in the Vilnius Summit

President Arnold Rüütel will travel tomorrow, May 3, to a working visit to the Republic of Lithuania in order to participate in a two-day Summit of the Baltic Sea and Black Sea countries ''Common Vision for Common Neighborhood''.

Wednesday evening, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Valdas Adamkus, will host a reception and a dinner for the Heads of State attending the Summit. The timetable of President Rüütel also includes a bilateral meeting with the President of Ukraine, Viktor Jushchenko.

On Thursday, May 4, President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus and President of Poland Lech Kaczynski will open the conference in Reval Hotel Lietuva. The Vice-President of the United States of America, Richard B. Cheney, will speak about the adjustment of European new democracies to the concept of a Europe whole and free.

The Head of Estonian State is scheduled to make a presentation during the second panel session of the conference together with Viktor Jushchenko, President of Ukraine, Javier Solana, EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Georgi Porvanov, President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ilham Alijev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Göran Pearsson, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden. The topic of the speech of President Rüütel will be ''Small and Dynamic: the Experience of Estonia''.

The President of the Republic will also attend the third panel session of the conference, where Vaira Vike-Freiberga, President of the Republic of Latvia, Vladimir Voronin, President of the Republic of Moldova, Traian Basescu, President of Romania will speak about the role of NATO in ensuring the framework for democratic consolidation. On Thursday, the timetable of President Rüütel will also include bilateral meetings with Miguel Angel Moratinos, Foreign Minister of Spain and Lech Kaczynski, President of Poland, taking a family photo and attending the press conference.

On Friday, May 5, President Rüütel will meet with the President of Lithuania, Valdas Adamkus, and will arrive back in Estonia in the afternoon.

Beside the President of the Republic of Estonia, heads of state from several other countries, heads of government and foreign ministers from more than twenty countries, also leaders of the European Union and NATO will participate in the Summit. Within the framework of the Summit, there will be also a Youth Forum, a NGO Forum, and an Intellectuals Forum. More detailed information about the Summit is available at www.vilniusconference2006.lt

During the Summit, the President of the Republic will be accompanied by Andres Tropp, Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Lithuania and Karin Jaani, Director General of the 2nd Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia.
