The President of the Republic visited Tallinn Centre for Children at Risk

President Rüütel and Mrs Rüütel visited Tallinn Centre for Children at Risk.President Rüütel and Mrs Rüütel today visited Tallinn Centre for Children at Risk in Nõmme tee and met with the children.

Director of Tallinn Centre for Children at Risk Erki Korp gave a brief overview of the Centre’s activities and showed the rooms. After that, President Rüütel and Mrs. Rüütel met with the children of the Centre and answered their questions.

The President of the Republic acknowledged the work of the Centre and pointed out the importance of continuing the work with children also after leaving the Centre, so that they would be stronger and more confident when they return back to their former environment. In the words of President Rüütel, the work done by the Centre is very important, as Estonian society should not lose not a single young person, and it is essential that every young person would grow up and become a fully integrated and socially acceptable member of the society. The Head of Estonian State commended the possibility offered to children by the Centre to learn different useful practical skills, such as woodworking, for example.

The aim of Nõmme tee Centre for Children at Risk is to offer a shelter for children with addiction problems, to sort out their addiction and other problems and to support child throughout the alienation process. After intensive rehabilitation the child goes back to his or her growing-up environment (family, foster-family, children’s home).
