PRELIMINARY NOTICE: The President of the Republic to visit the Republic of Moldova

President Arnold Rüütel, on March 19, will leave for an official visit to the Republic of Moldova. During the visit Estonian-Moldovan bilateral political, economic and cultural relations, as well as Estonian development cooperation in Moldova within the framework of the European Union Neighbourhood Policy will be discussed.

On Monday, March 20, the official reception ceremony will take place in the palace of the President of the Republic of Moldova, and will be followed by a tête-à-tête meeting of the presidents, a meeting of delegations and a press conference. President Rüütel will lay a wreath to the monument of Stefan cel Mare şi Sfînti. In the afternoon, the Head of Estonian State will meet with Moldova’s Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, and will visit the National Museum of Ethnography and History of the Republic of Moldova. In the evening, President Voronin will host a festive dinner in honour of the President of the Republic.

On Tuesday, President Rüütel will open the Moldovan-Estonian business forum, will meet with the Chairman of the Parliament of Moldova Marian Lupu, and will meet with Moldova’s Minister of Information Development Vladimir Molojen. In the afternoon, the President of the Republic will visit the Căpriana Monastery and the Hîncu Nunnery.

The official delegation accompanying the Head of Estonian State comprises among others Paul Lettens, Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the Republic of Moldova; Ester Tuiksoo, Minister of Agriculture; Rein Lang, Minister of Justice; Members of the Riigikogu Mati Kepp and Jarno Laur; Aivar Kokk, Governor of Jõgevamaa; and Kaja Tael, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Head of State is also accompanied by a 15- member business delegation headed by Siim Raie, Director General of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The President of the Republic will return to Estonia on Wednesday, March 22.
