25.02.2006

President Arnold Rüütel at Aegviidu opened the third ''President's Ski Trip''.President Arnold Rüütel today at Aegviidu opened the third ''President's Ski Trip''. The opening ceremony took place on the square in front of Aegviidu railway station. The ski trail followed the following route: Aegviidu - Nelijärve - Jäneda, and was 10 km long.

Opening the ski trip, the President of the Republic emphasised that each person's health depends primarily on his or her own decisions and behaviour. ''Also in small Estonia every year billions of kroons are spent on health care. But healthcare is emergency care. If we could considerably cut such expenditures by developing sports, the whole society would develop faster and people would enjoy longer, more active, and happier life,'' the Head of State said.

President Rüütel commended the local authorities and the other organisers of the ski trip for excellent preparation work and for developing various opportunities for recreation in general. The Head of State visited Nelijärve recreation centre and thereafter went on a walking trip to Jäneda. Following a soup lunch at Musta Täku Tall tavern a group photo of the participants of the ski trip was taken.

The third ''President's Ski Trip'' was organised by a non-profit society SK Presidendirada in cooperation with the Estonian Olympic Committee and the Estonian Ski Association.
