The President of the Republic met the Ambassador of Syria

President Arnold Rüütel received the credentials of the Ambassador of Syria Mohamad Ali HamouiPresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the credentials of the Ambassador of Syria Mohamad Ali Hamoui.

In the words of the President of the Republic the cooperation of our two countries within the framework of international organisations is very important, especially now, as because of globalisation and the threat of international terrorism international community's joint efforts are required. "In recent years the developments in the Middle East have constantly been in the focus of interest for the entire world, and we are sincerely pleased about the steps, which have been directed towards the stabilisation of the situation in that region. Estonia recognises the importance of the inclusion of Syria into the Middle East peace process. This is the only way to reach comprehensive peace and economic advancement in your region," the Head of the Estonian state said.

Ambassador Hamoui congratulated the Republic of Estonia on the accession to the European Union and NATO, and noted that participation of Estonia in European organisations would facilitate the peace process and relations between Europe and the Arab world.

President Rüütel wished Syria success in developing its relations within the framework of Euro-Mediterranean partnership, which provides a foundation for closer bilateral relations and enhancement of economic cooperation.
