The President of the Republic met with the Prime Minister09.10.2002
President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with Prime Minister Siim Kallas hosting a luncheon for him. The Prime Minister provided the Head of State with an overview of the progress report on the European Union's candidate countries adopted by the European Commission. The Head of Government referred to two major deficiencies highlighted in the report: there are still problems with administrative capacity and inter-agency co-operation in the sector of fisheries, and the exchange of information in the area of customs services needs to be streamlined.
At the meeting, also the topic of nominating a candidate for Auditor General was under discussion. The Prime Minister indicated that this belonged to the sphere of responsibility of the President of the Republic. At the same time the Head of State and the Head of Government agreed on expedience of reaching consensus with the political parties represented in the Riigikogu.
