The President- elect of the Republic of Estonia will assume office on October 9

The President-elect of the Republic of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves will take the oath of office at the session of the Riigikogu starting at 3 pm on October 9.

At 2 pm, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will greet President-elect Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Mrs. Evelin Ilves at Kadriorg. The President of the Republic introduces the personnel of the Office of the President of the Republic.

At 2:45 pm the guard of Honour Company will be lined up on Toompea (Loss väljak) and the company commander will report to the President of the Republic. At the session of the Riigikogu starting at 3 pm, at first President of the Republic Arnold Rüütel will deliver a speech. Following that, Toomas Hendrik Ilves who was elected the President of the Republic of Estonia on September 23 will give the oath of office and will also deliver a speech. At 3:45 the guard of Honour Company lined up on Toompea Castle Square will report to President of the Republic Toomas Hendrik Ilves.

At 4 pm a thanksgiving service will be held in Kaarli Church. In the evening, a festive ceremony will be held in Kadriorg Art Museum where President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will say farewell and the President of the Republic and Mrs. Evelin Ilves will greet the representatives of Estonian constitutional institutions, diplomatic corps and higher state officials.

On Monday, October 9, it is possible to sign the visitors’ book in the Office of the President of the Republic at Kadriorg starting from 9 am till 12 noon.
