Queen Elizabeth II will visit Estonia on October 19 and 20
03.10.2006

At the invitation of the President of the Republic, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh will pay a State Visit to Estonia from 19th to 20th of October.

Her Majesty’s State Visit is an event of historical importance - it is the first visit by a British monarch to Estonia. The visit underlines the existence of longstanding and close relations between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Estonia, a cornerstone of which was laid already in the days of the Estonian War of Independence, when fighting together. The relations between our two countries cover a variety of different fields, including our cooperation within the framework of NATO and the European Union.

On Thursday, October 19, a festive reception ceremony will be held in front of the Office of the President of the Republic and will be followed by a meeting with the President of the Republic. In the evening, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh will attend a concert and a reception organised by the British Ambassador at the Kumu Art Museum. The President of the Republic together with his wife will host a festive dinner in honour of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh.

On October 20, a memorial ceremony will take place at the memorial plaque dedicated to the Royal Navy, which is fixed to the wall of the Maritime Museum. Following that, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh will meet local people on Town Hall Square where an open-air concert “Estonia is singing” will be held.

The State Visit will be concluded in Tallinn Old Harbour with military honours dedicated to Estonian-British historical and current defence cooperation, followed by a departure ceremony.

Before arriving in Estonia, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Latvia.
