The President of the Republic participated in the celebration of the Day of “Truth and Justice”
26.08.2006

President Arnold Rüütel participated in the celebration of the Day of “Truth and Justice” in the region of writer Tammsaare.President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel today visited Albu Commune in Järva County and participated in the celebration of the Day of “Truth and Justice” in the region of writer Tammsaare.

In his speech held at the monument to Tammsaare in front of Albu municipal government building, the Head of State spoke on the topic “Man and his land”. “By our roots our people have always been country folks even if nowadays the majority of them are living in cities. A couple of generations are not enough time for emergence of a new national identity. Our self-reflection still coincides to a great extent with the one of Anton Hansen Tammsaare. Maybe this explains why he has been a real people’s writer for several generations of Estonians. Reading Tammsaare’s books and perceiving his love towards his country and people we can have a clearer understanding of ourselves,” President Rüütel said.

The presidential couple visited the House Museum of A.H. Tammsaare and watched the stage play by Sven Heiberg “Chosen Moments from “Truth and Justice”” with the participation of Viljandi Culture Academy’s students and leaders of Järva County’s local authorities.

The celebration of the Day of Truth and Justice continued with listening to the Järva Madise Church bells, Juhan Kilumets’ lecture on Estonian church bells, and a concert of folk ensemble “Triskele”.
