PRELIMINARY NOTICE: The President of the Republic will participate in the UN High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS in New York29.05.2006
President Arnold Rüütel will leave on Thursday, June 1, for a working visit to the United States of America to participate in the UN High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS held in New York, which is aimed at ensuring the continuous commitment of world leaders to stop the HIV/AIDS global epidemic.
On Friday, the President of the Republic will participate in the United Nations High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS where he will give an overview of HIV/AIDS situation and prevention work in Estonia. The Head of Estonian State will meet with the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the Executive Director of UNAIDS Peter Piot, and will attend high-level receptions held within the framework of the summit.
On May 3, President Rüütel will meet representatives of Estonian community in the United States, and will acquaint himself with New York City.
Besides the President of Estonia, heads of state and government and foreign ministers from several other countries, as well as representatives of civil society and private sector will participate in the high-level meeting. During the visit, the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the United Nations Tiina Intelman will accompany the President of the Republic. A delegation of the Ministry of Social Affairs headed by Assistant Minister Peeter Laasik will also participate in the UN meeting.
The Head of Estonian State will return to Estonia on the morning of June 5.
