The President of the Republic congratulated mothers
14.05.2006

President Arnold Rüütel today, on the occasion of Mothers' Day, greeted the Estonian mothers at a ceremony held in Estonia Concert Hall.

In his address to the mothers, the President of the Republic said: ''Mother is an epitome of caring and love, and thus she means much more for her child and her role in the family is much bigger than it is ever possible to express in words. Mother's care extends far beyond her daily concerns. I believe that more than anybody else mothers are concerned about the well-being of Estonia, its security, the state of public health, and endurance of our culture. No mother would like to give birth to a child in the world that is insecure or even destined to vanish.''

''Another question is whether, and how strongly, our Estonian mothers can express their opinion. Here, the situation will change for the better the more caring and coherent our society becomes and the further we proceed on our path to participatory democracy,'' President Rüütel added.

The Head of Estonian State emphasised that through our children we can influence and shape our future. ''The more we love and care for our children, the more there would be love and caring in our society as a whole, and our future would be much better. It is never too late to love. Therefore, today I wish you a lot of love on which to build a happy family and a strong state,'' the President of the Republic said.

Today, at Kadriorg, President Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will host an afternoon coffee party for mothers of large families. A group photograph will be taken of the meeting participants.
