PRELIMINARY NOTICE: The President of the Republic will leave for an official visit to the Republic of Georgia09.05.2006
President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will leave late in the evening, on May 9, for an official visit to the Republic of Georgia. During the visit Estonian-Georgian bilateral political, economic and cultural relations, as well as Estonian development assistance to Georgia within the framework of the EU Neighbourhood Policy will be discussed.
On Wednesday, May 10, the President of the Republic will open an Estonian-Georgian business forum and will get acquainted with Mtskheta - the historical capital of Georgia.
On Thursday, in the building of the Georgian Parliament an official reception ceremony, a tete-a-tete meeting of the presidents, a meeting with delegations and a meeting with Nino Burjanadze, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament will take place.
After the meeting, President Rüütel will lay a wreath at the Monument to Heroes in Tbilisi. In the afternoon, the Head of Estonian State will meet with Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli.
In the evening, President Mikhail Saakashvili and Mrs. Sandra Roelofs will host a festive dinner in honour of the President of the Republic of Estonia and Mrs. Rüütel.
On May 12, President Rüütel and Mrs. Rüütel will visit the Kakhethi district and will meet with the patriarch of Georgia Ilia II.
The official delegation accompanying the Head of Estonian State will include among others Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the Republic of Georgia Paul Lettens, Minister of Economy and Communications Edgar Savisaar, Minister of Agriculture Ester Tuiksoo, Minister of Justice Rein Lang, Vice-President of the Bank of Estonia Rein Minka, members of the Riigikogu Andres Herkel and Janno Reiljan, and Rapla County Governor Tõnis Blank. The Head of State will be accompanied also by an 18-member business delegation headed by Director- General of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Siim Raie.
The President of the Republic will arrive back in Estonia on Saturday, May 13.
