The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Iceland

President Arnold Rüütel received Hannes Heimisson, Ambassador of the Republic of Iceland who presented his Letter of Credentials.President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received Hannes Heimisson, Ambassador of the Republic of Iceland who presented his Letter of Credentials.

In the words of the Head of Estonian State, Estonia wishes to host a high-level visit from Iceland in 2006, as in August 15 years will pass from the day when Iceland was the first country to re-recognise Estonia's independence.

''Please extend my very best greetings to the President of the Republic of Iceland, Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grimsson who so kindly hosted us during my state visit in May 2004. I have very pleasant memories of my meetings with him,'' the President of the Republic said.

In the words of the Ambassador of Iceland he is proud of the fact that Iceland became the first country in the world formally to accord full diplomatic recognition to Estonia. According to Ambassador Heimisson the bonds between the Nordic and Baltic states have never been stronger and Iceland is pleased to witness how these eight brother nations support each other internationally.
