The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey

President Arnold Rüütel met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, Fatma Ŗule Soysal.President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, Fatma Ŗule Soysal who presented her Letter of Credentials.

In the words of the Estonian Head of State, Estonia welcomes the commencement of the EU accession negotiations with Turkey. "We are pleased that the Member States resolved to adhere to the principles that had been agreed upon earlier and the enlargement process is going on. In case of Turkey, the beginning of accession negotiations certainly serves also the interests of stability in the Middle East region and global security," the President of the Republic said.

President Rüütel recalled with warm words his state visit to Turkey in September and asked to extend his best greetings to the President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Ahmet Necdet Sezer.

The Turkish Ambassador passed on the warm greetings from the President of Turkey to the Estonian Head of State. Ambassador Soysal confirmed that Turkey is happy to have become close allies with Estonia in NATO, and appreciates the support of Estonia for the commencement of the EU accession negotiations with Turkey.
