The President of the Republic thanked the Ambassador of Ukraine

Today, at Kadriorg, Ambassador of Ukraine, Mykola Makarevych paid a farewell visit to President Rüütel who thanked the Ambassador for contributing to the introduction of his home country in Estonia and to the deepening of contacts between the two countries.

President Rüütel thanked the Ambassador of Ukraine Mykola Makarevych.President Rüütel concluded that the Ambassador's work in Estonia since October 1999 till today has been very fruitful and has facilitated the relations between Estonia and Ukraine. President Rüütel highlighted that the communication between people has become much more lively. ''I attach great importance to the ties you have had with the Ukrainian community in Estonia and your manifold support to their undertakings. We are very pleased with them, as they have made a valuable contribution to the development of our society and have enriched our cultural and intellectual life,'' the President of the Republic said.

The Head of Estonian State highlighted also the responsible and praiseworthy work of Ambassador Makarevych as the Doyen of diplomatic corps residing in Estonia.

The Ukrainian Ambassador thanked President Rüütel for the high honour bestowed on him, and for the personal contribution of the Head of Estonian State to the advancement of relations between the two states. In the words of Ambassador Makarevych, the Ukrainian Embassy in Tallinn has worked hard for the sake of development of contacts between our countries and has always felt the support of the Estonian people to the people of Ukraine.

In recognition of the Ambassador's services, President Rüütel conferred the 1st class Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana on him.
