PRELIMINARY NOTICE: The President of the Republic will make a state visit to the Republic of Portugal

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will leave on Sunday, November 27, for a state visit to the Republic of Portugal. The topics addressed during the visit include Estonian-Portuguese bilateral political, economic and cultural relations and relations within the framework of the European Union.

On Sunday, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will visit the city of Evora.

On Monday, an official reception ceremony will be held in front of the Belem Palace in Lisbon, after that a tete-ą-tete meeting of the presidents and a meeting of delegations will take place.

In the afternoon, President Rüütel will meet with the Chairman of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal, Jaime Gama and the leaders of party groups, and António Carmona Rodrigues, Mayor of Lisbon

In the evening, President Jorge Sampaio and Mrs. Sampaio will host a festive dinner in honour of the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel.

On Tuesday, November 29, the head of Estonian state will open the Estonian-Portuguese business seminar, and after that will meet with the Prime Minister of Portugal, Jose Socrates. In the afternoon, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Rüütel will give a reception where Tallinn String Quartet will perform

On November 30, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Rüütel will visit the city of Porto where they meet with Rui Rio, Mayor of Porto and with Porto Commercial Association.

Among the members of the official delegation accompanying the Head of State are: the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the Republic of Portugal, Aino Lepik von Wirén, Chief of the Defence Forces, Vice Admiral Tarmo Kõuts, Minister of Finance Aivar Sõerd, Minister of Environment Villu Reiljan, Secretary of State Heiki Loot, Vice-President of the Bank of Estonia Rein Minka, Lääne-Viru County Governor Urmas Tamm, Members of the Riigikogu Andres Jalak and Maret Maripuu, and Rector of Estonian Academy of Arts Signe Kivi. The Head of State will be accompanied also by a 15-member business delegation headed by Director-General of Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Siim Raie

On December 1, after the end of his state visit, the President of the Republic will leave for a working visit to Ukraine. President Rüütel will return to Estonia on Saturday, December3.
