The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal

President Arnold Rüütel received the Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal, Ana Paula Baptista Grade Zacarias who presented her Letter of Credentials.President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal, Ana Paula Baptista Grade Zacarias who presented her Letter of Credentials. Ambassador Zacarias is the first Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to Estonia who resides in Tallinn.

According to President Rüütel Estonian-Portuguese relations are characterised by regular and content-rich political dialogue, and numerous high-level visits and smooth cooperation on various levels have created a favourable soil for building active and fruitful contacts in diverse fields of cooperation also in the future.

The President of the Republic said that he is looking forward with great interest to his state visit to Portugal, which begins next week. "I believe that Estonia and Portugal will always have topics of common interest to discuss, and the necessity to exchange views will never cease to exist. Here I would like to thank the President of the Republic of Portugal, Mr. Jorge Sampaio for his invitation, and please, extend to him my cordial greetings," President Rüütel said.

In the words of the Ambassador of Portugal, Estonia is a recent, but very competitive, hardworking and fast-growing partner in the European Union, with whom it is possible to find innovative prospects for cooperation both in sectors such as information technologies, and in more traditional areas, like tourism.
