The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway

President Arnold Rüütel received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, Stein Vegard Hagen who presented his Letter of Credentials.President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, Stein Vegard Hagen who presented his Letter of Credentials.

The President of the Republic said that he has the best memories of his state visit to Norway and he asked to extend his cordial greetings to His majesty King Harald V of Norway. President Rüütel added that he would also like to see His Majesty visit Estonia.

The Head of Estonian State thanked Norway for the assistance to Estonia available within the framework of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, signed in 2004 and Norwegian Financial mechanism. ''This is a substantial assistance to our development and clearly reflects the Norwegian foreign policy priorities,'' President Rüütel said.

In the words of the Ambassador of Norway, Estonia and Norway share a common interest in working closely together to seek stability and prosperity in our Northern European region and since last year this co-operation has taken place also within the framework of NATO and the enlarged European Economic area. ''The NATO membership of Estonia was strongly supported by Norway,'' Ambassador Stein Vegard Hagen added.
