In the words of the President of the Republic, the relations between Estonia and Peru have been so far rather modest and there is a lot more space for further development. ''Estonia is interested in development of mutual trade, one of the preconditions of which is the existence of necessary contractual framework. I also believe that mutual exchange of business delegations would provide better knowledge of each other's economic life,'' President Rüütel added.

The Ambassador of Peru thanked Estonia for supporting the Republic of Peru when it was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Ambassador Picasso noted that the European Union is the main investor and contributor in terms of aid for development, and that in May 2006 Peru will take over the role of the lead country for organising cooperation of Latin America and the Caribbean region with the European Union.
