The meeting addressed issues related to the further development of the Baltic cooperation, and both political as well as economic cooperation were discussed. Briefly also the topic of air policing in the Baltic states was discussed. The presidents spoke of the contribution of the Baltic states to the implementation of the EU Neighbourhood Policy and viewpoints of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania concerning the future of the European Union.

Talking about the planned Russian-German gas pipeline, the heads of state reached a unanimous viewpoint that the construction of the pipeline might cause very serious ecological risks to the Baltic Sea and the states bordering it. In connection with that topic and also in wider context, it was stated that the Baltic cooperation has reached a new phase and therefore formation of common positions and protection of shared interests have become increasingly more important. In the field of economic cooperation, the discussion focused on energy issues and on the necessity to boost the development of infrastructure in the Baltic region - primarily in connection with Via Baltica and RailBaltica projects.

The meeting was followed by a joint press conference of the Baltic heads of state. Thereafter, the Estonian head of state hosted a luncheon in honour of his two colleagues. After lunch, the President of the Republic of Latvia, Vaira Vike-Freiberga left Estonia.

In the afternoon, the Lithuanian and Estonian heads of state visited the Estonian Fairs Centre and participated in the official opening ceremony of the Lithuanian Business Days in Estonia. At the Fairs Centre, the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus received a lot of flowers and best wishes from those who congratulated him on his 79th birthday. Thereafter the President of the Republic of Lithuania left Estonia.

The previous meeting of the three Baltic presidents took place in Riga, in May this year, where on the same day there was also a meeting with George W. Bush, the President of the United States of America. The next meeting of the Baltic heads of state will be held in Lithuania in 2006.
