President Arnold Rüütel participated in a farm conferencePresident Arnold Rüütel today in Tallinn participated in the Farm Conference "Alternative Farm Production - reality or a myth" organised by the Estonian Farmers Central Union. The conference addressed possibilities and problems of alternative agricultural production in Estonia.

In the words of the President of the Republic, the alternative production is connected with untraditional and not widely spread fields of activity, but which diversify and invigorate enterprise environment, create new jobs and enhance quality of life.

Though traditional production seems to be less complicated and even more profitable at first, the attractiveness of alternative production consists of original thinking and readiness to act innovatively, getting the latest information and putting it into practice.

"At the same time, alternative enterprise requires readiness to cooperate and just doing many things jointly - for example, in marketing and in applying for subsidies. Besides, it often needs cooperation with scientists. Alternative production enables not only to earn one's living, but helps to develop and harness one's personality characteristics. In conclusion, we can say that alternative production is a subject full of opportunities for innovative, educated and active people," President Rüütel said.
