In order to promote economic relations, it is necessary to create a contractual basis that would open the door for broader contacts. Mutual exchange of business delegations and seeking new possibilities for investments would contribute to the establishing of contacts between companies and enlivening of trade," President Rüütel said.

In the words of the Ambassador of New Zealand the EU was their second largest trading partner and a major source of investment, tourism and educational, scientific and technological cooperation. "Maintaining an open dialogue with the EU and its member states is a priority for New Zealand. As Estonia becomes ever more deeply involved in the EU, we hope that you will remain receptive to New Zealand's interests and perspectives on key issues of common importance," Ambassador Griffiths said.
