The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea

President Arnold Rüütel received Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Park Heung-shin who presented his Letter of CredentialsPresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Park Heung-shin who presented his Letter of Credentials.

The President of the Republic noted that in order to broaden knowledge about each other and deepen contacts, it is certainly necessary to liven up the Estonian-Korean relations, including political, trade as well as cultural ties. "We very much appreciate the possibility offered by Korea for Estonian specialists to have refresher training in Korea. Many people from Estonia have used that possibility and we are interested to continue such cooperation also in the future," the Head of State said.

President Rüütel added that Estonia follows very carefully the situation on the split Korean peninsula. "We highly recognise and support the activities undertaken by the Republic of Korea in order to lessen tension. We hope that the crisis will be solved peacefully, the situation in that region will be stabilized, and peace will be maintained. We believe that the six sided talks will continue in November as it was planned," the President of the Republic said.

The Ambassador of Korea congratulated Estonia on its accession to the European Union and NATO. "The integration of Estonia into those organisations clearly demonstrated to the world that Estonia has firmly committed itself to developing peace, economic prosperity and democracy in the region. I am confident that Estonia will achieve the rest of its goals and will become a core member of the European Union joining the European Monetary Union and Schengen Visa Regime as planned," the Ambassador of Korea said.
