The President of the Republic handed over the Most Beautiful School of the Year 2005 Award

President Arnold Rüütel today presented "The Most Beautiful School in Estonia 2005" award to Illuka Basic School.

The Head of State thanked the students and teachers for the work done. The President said that Illuka has visible connection with nature. "The beautiful park and school garden have certainly facilitated environmental education and learning in general, have helped better understand what is happening in nature and the human role in it," the President of the Republic said.

The President of the Republic presented Illuka Basic School with a tapestry "Towers Square" by Anu Raud.

"The Most Beautiful School in Estonia - was selected within the framework of the project "Green Schoolyard - Attractive Learning Environment II". This award has been given out already six times and the winner gets also a monetary prize of 30,000 kroons. This year schools from eight counties participated in the competition and were evaluated by a nationwide jury. The evaluators take into account the functionality of the schoolyard, order and tidiness of the premises, possibilities to have outdoor classes, generation of students' ideas and their implementation as well as the level of team work.
