PRELIMINARY NOTICE: The President of the Republic will attend the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly12.09.2005
President Arnold Rüütel will leave on Tuesday, September 13, for New York to attend the 60th Session of UN General Assembly.
On Tuesday, the President of the Republic will participate in a reception hosted by the President of the United States of America George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush. The same day, in the evening, the President of the current session, the President of the Gabonese Republic El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba with his wife will hold a reception in honour of high-level guests of the UN General Assembly.
On Wednesday, September 14, President Rüütel will participate in the opening of the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly. The day of the head of Estonian state will continue in the assembly hall where he will participate in a discussion "Financing Development" organized within the framework of High-Level Plenary meeting, after that President Rüütel will participate in an official luncheon hosted by the Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and in the signing of an international convention on prevention of nuclear terrorism. In the afternoon, a reception will be held in honour of the President of the Republic in the Estonian House in New York.
On Thursday, September 15, President Rüütel will participate in a debate held on the initiative of the Prime Minister of Barbados Owen Seymour Arthur on the topic of global concentration of resources for fighting AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. In the afternoon, the President of the Republic will hand over the 1st class Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana to the former President of the United States of America George H.W. Bush. The same day, in the afternoon, the head of Estonian state will deliver a speech at the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly. Ambassador to the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Estonia to the UN Tiina Intelmann will host a festive dinner in honour of the President of the Republic.
President Rüütel will also have bilateral meetings with heads of state in New York.
The President of the Republic will leave New York on Friday and will arrive in Estonia on Saturday, September 17.
