The President of the Republic completed the state visit to the Republic of Turkey

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel today visited several sights of interest, and met with the Honorary Consul of Estonia in Istanbul.

In the morning, President Rüütel met with businessmen from Istanbul at a seminar organised by the Turkey Estonia Latvia Lithuania Friendship Association (TELLFA, www.tellfa.org ) headed by a local entrepreneur Galip Ilter.

At the seminar, the President of the Republic gave an overview of Estonia's reform experience, saying among other things that he would give Estonia for its reforms at least "four" on a five-point scale. The head of Estonian state expressed conviction that the further expansion of Estonian-Turkish cooperation had excellent possibilities.

President Rüütel visited Museum of Hagia Sophia, which through centuries has been a place of worship for both Christians and Muslims. The Estonian delegation visited Anadolu Group's Anadolu Isuzi Facility at Gebze, near Istanbul, where Isuzi buses and trucks are produced. At the plant, the President of the Republic met also with the Honorary Consul of Estonia in Istanbul region, Tuncay Özilhan.

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel visited a carpet manufacturing facility in Hereke, where very fine handmade silk carpets, which are admired everywhere in the world, are made.

President Rüütel acquainted himself with the treasures of the former residence of Turkish sultans, Topkap Palace, and visited the Blue Mosque. For the Estonian delegation, the state visit to the Republic of Turkey ended with a boat trip along the picturesque Bosporus Strait which separates Europe from Asia.
