02.09.2005

President Arnold Rüütel this morning via Estonian Radio addressed all pupils and students, parents, teachers and educationalists, and wished them a happy start of the new school year.

At noon, the Head of State attended the opening ceremony of Laagri School. Marje Eelmaa, the headmaster of Laagri School, Mati Tartu, Saue rural municipality mayor and Indrek Tiidemann, the chairman of Saue rural municipality council were meeting President Rüütel at the schoolhouse and together with the Head of State made a tour around the school. Following the opening assembly, the President of the Republic planted an oak tree near the schoolhouse.

In his greeting addresses, President Rüütel emphasised the importance of preservation of one's mother tongue and culture. "Preserving our language we pay tribute to our forebears, thanks to whom contemporary Estonian cultural language has been developing during centuries. And so we can fulfil the mission of every generation to preserve one's native language cultural environment, and contribute to the shared wealth of the world - to the same inexhaustible wealth, which you are going to explore with the help of your beautiful mother tongue," the Head of State stressed.
