The President of the Republic participated in fish and water festival

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel today participated in the Kalevipoeg fish and water festival in Jõgeva County.

The day started in the park of Mustvee Cultural Centre where the Head of State and Jõgeva County Governor Aivar Kokk planted an oak tree in honour of Kalevipoeg.

At a festive ceremony in Mustvee harbour, the President of the Republic declared the ship line between Mustvee and Omedu open. The Head of State and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel and the Jõgeva County Governor with his spouse made a journey to Omedu on board of the first ship going there.

After that, President Rüütel attended a seminar, held in Mustvee Cultural Centre. The topics covered at the seminar included Lake Peipsi, fish resources in the lake, foundation of harbours in the central part of Lake Peipsi and the current state of organisational work.

After the seminar, the President of the Republic went to Mustvee cemetery where he laid a wreath to the grave of Aleksander Jõesaar who had fallen in the War of Liberation.

At the end of the day, the Head of State visited a fish fair at Kasepää.
