President Arnold Rüütel received the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Tomasz Chloń who presented his Letter of CredentialsPresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Tomasz Chloń who presented his Letter of Credentials.

The President of the Republic noted that the Estonian-Polish relations were characterized by regular and content-rich dialogue. "Estonia highly appreciates the support of Poland to Estonia's accession to NATO. Today, Estonia is in NATO and this is a proof our smooth cooperation. I am happy to note that NATO takes very seriously the need to protect the security of its common airspace and implements NATO's common airspace protection policy where Poland participates in airspace policing in the Baltic region in 2006," the Head of State said.

Ambassador Chloń said in his speech, which he made in the Estonian language, that though we felt ourselves more secure and protected being in the European Union, it could not protect us against all today's threats. "The European Union can not fully isolate us from the manifestation of national egoism, also those that take place outside of Member States. Therefore, a strong European Union needs that broader unions, which are based on the same principles and values, would become stronger. The most important among them are: human rights, rule of law and democracy," the Ambassador stressed.
