The President of the Republic continued the visit to Võru County

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel today continued the visit to Võru County.

The second day of the tour started with a visit to Võrumaa Regional Unit of the Defence League. Head of the Unit Kalev Ader and Senior Instructor Aivo Hütsi welcomed the President of the Republic. The Head of State praised the work of the Võrumaa Unit with youth. It was noted that children were interested in the activities of Young Eagles and Home Daughters even more, but there was a shortage of trained youth leaders.

After that, the President of the Republic visited Roosu farm in Sõmerpalu rural municipality, which belongs to Maarika and Aivar Rosenberg and is one of the biggest farms in Võru County. The farm has specialized in growing organic cereals and strawberries, but at the same time they organize leisure time activities, and produce log houses. The Rosenberg family has the advancement of local life close at heart. A former schoolhouse has been turned into a community house, which has become the center of social activities.

The tour continued with a visit to Antsla Inno Ltd. The main activity of Antsla Inno is the production of upholstered furniture and it is the fastest developing enterprise in Võru County. President Rüütel acknowledged the company's efforts to take a good care of its employees, which could be a good example for all Estonian enterprises.

At the same time, Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel acquainted herself with Metsamoori Family Park at Mähkla, near Kaika.

The tour continued with a visit to Karula National Park, where there was a meeting with the employees of the National Park and with local people. The topics discussed at the meeting touched nature protection and its connection with agriculture and tourism, but also protection of cultural heritage.

After lunch, the President of the Republic met with the leaders of Võrumaa local municipalities in Mõniste Basic School. Among main problems, the municipal leaders highlighted the issues related to municipalisation of the land. The meeting addressed also issues related to development of vocational education, and lessening the difference in the quality of life between cities and countryside, like improvement of electrisity supply, enhancement of possibilities of using the Internet, and the road network. The Head of State thanked the municipal leaders for their good work.

At the same time, Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel visited the Mõniste Museum where interesting farm buildings are exhibited. Every winter, the museum opens Päkapikumaa (Dwarfland) in cooperation with local people. In spring, the traditions of St. Georges' Day are introduced and different other theamatic days are organised.

In the afternoon, the presidential couple was received in Krabi Basic School by Ale Sprenk, the director of the school, and Rein Ansip, Varstu rural municipality mayor. Krabi Basic School was established in 2000 and also children with learning difficulties are educated there. The President of the Republic planted the first tree, an oak tree, to the park, which will be founded at Krabi Basic School.

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel ended the visit to Võru County attending the Day of Rõuge Municipality's Villages.
