The President of the Republic received the ambassadors of the Republic of Estonia

The President of the Republic today at Kadriorg in the Rose Garden of the President's Residence received the ambassadors of the Republic of Estonia to foreign countries and to international organizations.

President Rüütel, in his greeting address said that a couple of years ago one of the most important goals for Estonia had been accession to the European Union and NATO, but now we have already made conclusions about the first year of membership. The Head of State said that to a great extent Estonia's international success had been gained thanks to tireless work of its ambassadors. "The name of our country has been mentioned on international arena as a positive example in relation to many different issues," the Head of State emphasized.

President Rüütel noted that in spite of what had already been achieved, there was a lot of more work waiting to be done, and it was necessary for Estonia to prove itself in the European Union also in the future. "Using its experience, Estonia can make a significant contribution to the development of democratization process of the society in the neighborhood of the EU's external borders and elsewhere," the President of the Republic said.

After his speech, the Head of State discussed with the ambassadors possibilities to continue unified and successful foreign policy of Estonia
