The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany

President Arnold Rüütel received Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Julius Bobinger who presented his letters of credentialPresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Julius Bobinger who presented his letters of credential.

The President of the Republic acknowledged that the multilevel cooperation between the two countries was developing efficiently, also regional cooperation with different federal states was becoming ever so vigorous thanks to which the network of economic, political and cultural contacts had become wider. "We certainly will find together new additional opportunities for promoting tourism, livening up trade and increasing investments. But also for cooperation in science and cultural exchange," the Head of State said.

President Rüütel noted that it was necessary to think together what kind of Europe, what kind of European Union we would like to see in the future. "Those are very serious discussions, and we have to have them in connection with the EU's financial perspective, but also because of ever so decreasing birth rate and the attacks perpetrated by terrorists," the President of the Republic emphasized.

The Head of State pointed out the importance of cooperation in expanding the zone of democracy beyond the EU external borders, and in securing clean environment in the Baltic Sea region.

In the words of Ambassador Bobinger, the EU needed for its further development also the experience of Estonia who within few years since the restoration of its independence had become known as a country which had decreased bureaucracy and was striving for transparency and nearness to its citizens.
