The President of the Republic met with the President of the Republic of Poland

The President of the Republic of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski and Mrs. Jolanta Kwaśniewska arrived  for an official visit to Estonia, and were greeted by the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel at KadriorgThe President of the Republic of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski and Mrs. Jolanta Kwaśniewska arrived today for an official visit to Estonia, and were greeted by the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel at Kadriorg.

At the official welcoming ceremony the national anthems of Poland and Estonia were played. The welcoming ceremony was followed by a tete-a-tete meeting between the Presidents and, thereafter, by a meeting together with delegations. The meeting addressed opportunities to promote cooperation on bilateral as well as multilateral level between Estonia and Poland. The Presidents also held a joint press conference.

At the meeting, President Kwaśniewski said that there are good preconditions for advancement of cooperation between Estonia and Poland as the two states share common interests and similar viewpoints. Among future cooperation plans, the Head of Polish state singled out joint investments in third countries. Talking about the EU Constitutional Treaty, President Kwaśniewski stressed that it is very important that in near future different development possibilities would be discussed and such solution would be found that were beneficial for all Member States

President Rüütel thanked President Kwaśniewski for his personal contribution to the development of relations between the two countries and especially for the support to Estonia in connection with the accession to NATO. The Head of Estonian state also expressed his satisfaction that President Kwaśniewski, who is completing his second term in office, is accompanied on that visit by a high-level business delegation, which would facilitate direct contacts necessary to promote the relations between the two countries in various areas.

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic and President Kwaśniewski left for Saaremaa, where they will get acquainted with Lake Kaali Visitors' Centre and with a local enterprise AS Saare Paat in the village of Nasva. Afterwards, the heads of Estonian and Polish state will plant an oak tree in the park of Kuressaare Castle. In the evening the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel will host a gala dinner in honour of the President of the Republic of Poland and Mrs. Jolanta Kwaśniewska.

On Wednesday morning, the Presidents leave Saaremaa for Tallinn and will pay a visit to the Estonian National War Museum (General Laidoner's Museum) in Viimsi. After that the Polish president will leave Estonia.
