The President of the Republic received the best university graduates

PPresident Arnold Rüütel received the best university graduatesresident Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel today received the best Estonian university graduates in the Rose Garden of the Kadriorg Residence. 65 graduates from 27 universities and colleges had been invited to the reception.

In his speech, President Rüütel said that in today's world education is an inevitable prerequisite in order to cope in changing world and create new values, therefore not a certificate of education is needed, but knowledge - intelligence is important. "We need profound knowledge, but we also need ideals, daring to dream and strive for our goals. And we surely need to remain Estonians in the spirit of the members of Young Estonia even after we have become Europeans," the President of the Republic said.

The graduates were greeted by Minister of Education and Research Mailis Reps. In her speech, she stressed the importance of life-long learning and constant need for rejuvenation of scientific community.

Sten Lassman from the Estonian Music Academy replied with a speech on behalf of the graduates.

An ensemble of old music from Kiili School of Arts made music at the reception.
