PRELIMINARY NOTICE: The President of the Republic to leave for a state visit to the Republic of Bulgaria

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will leave on Monday, May 25 for a state visit to the Republic of Bulgaria.

During the visit Estonian-Bulgarian bilateral political, economic and cultural relations as well as the further EU enlargement and cooperation with neighbours will be discussed. Also situation in the Balkans and transatlantic relations will be treated.

On Thursday, May 26, the President of the Republic and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will meet with the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov and Mrs Zorka Parvanova. President Rüütel will lay a wreath on the grave of an unknown soldier on the Alexander Nevski Square in Sofia. After that there will be a tźte-ą-tźte meeting of the presidents and a meeting with the delegations, which will be followed by a joint press conference. In the afternoon, the Head of Estonian state will open the Estonian-Bulgarian Business Seminar, and will meet with Chairman of the Bulgarian National Assembly Borislav Lubenov Velikov.

The President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov and Mrs Zorka Parvanova will host a dinner in honour of the President of the Republic and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel.

On Friday, May 27, President Rüütel will visit the Bulgarian National History Museum, the Bojana Church, Bochkovo Monastery, and will meet with the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Head of Estonian state will arrive at Plovdiv, where he will meet with Mayor of Plovdiv Ivan Chomakov. President Rüütel will visit the Balabanov House Museum and the Hindliani House Museum, and the Church of St Konstantin and Helena. Later in the afternoon, the President of the Republic will attend a Folklore Concert in the Plovdiv Ethnographic Museum, and will visit the antique amphitheatre.

The Official delegation accompanying the President of the Republic consists of the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia in Bulgaria Aivo Orav, the Chief of the Defence Forces Vice-Admiral Tarmo Kõuts, Minister of Economy and Communications Edgar Savisaar, Minister of Finance Aivar Sõerd, Minister of Environment Villu Reiljan, State Secretary Heiki Loot, President of the Bank of Estonia Vahur Kraft, and Governor of Jõgeva County Aivar Kokk. The Head of state will be accompanied also by a 24-member business delegation led by President of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Toomas Luman.

The President of the Republic will return back to Estonia on Friday night, May 27.
