The President of the Republic met with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands

In the 3rd Summit of the Council of Europe President Arnold Rüütel met with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Jan Peter BalkenendeWhile participating in the 3rd Summit of the Council of Europe in Warsaw, President Arnold Rüütel yesterday, late in the evening, met with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Jan Peter Balkenende.

In the course of the meeting, the President of the Republic thanked the Netherlands for successful cooperation within the EU and NATO, and expressed hope that in future it would be possible to further intensify the relations in different fields. Prime Minister Balkenende said that he intended to encourage Dutch entrepreneurs to turn more attention to Estonia. Both sides acknowledged the importance of further enhancement of cultural ties.

The meeting addressed also a topic related to the celebrations of the anniversary of the end of World War II. Prime Minister Balkenende said that he understood the viewpoint of Estonia.

Among the other issues discussed today at the 3rd Summit of the Council of Europe, is also the adoption of the Warsaw Declaration of the Council of Europe. President Rüütel is scheduled to arrive in Estonia from his working visit to Poland today afternoon.
