The visit of the President of the Republic to Jõgeva CountyPresident Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel today began a two-day county visit to Jõgeva County. On the county boundary, at Adavere, the Head of state was met by the Governor of Jõgeva County Aivar Kokk and the Põltsamaa rural municipality mayor Toivo Tõnson.

The visit of the Head of state started with a visit to a dairy company E-Piim at Põltsamaa. The Head of state recognised the importance of co-operative activity in dairy processing industry and noted that this form of cooperation should be used more widely in Estonia.

After that, the President of the Republic met with the local governments' leaders of Jõgeva County in Põltsamaa Cultural Centre. The current situation and future development trends in Jõgeva County were discussed at the meeting.

The Head of state visited also Põltsamaa Friendship Park, where the founder of the park, Ants Paju told the story of the foundation of the park and gave explanations about the park's sculptures.

After visiting Põltsamaa, President Rüütel proceeded to Mustvee, where he met with the school-leavers and teachers of the Mustvee Gymnasium. After that, the Head of State acquainted himself with the Church of the Old-Believers in Mustvee.

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic attended the ceremony of the signing of an agreement on promoting physical exercising, which took place in the sports hall of the Anna Haava Basic School of Pala. After the signing ceremony, the President of the Republic and Mrs. Ingrid Rüüte joined the local people of Pala in a three-and-a-half-kilometre Nordic pole walking even.

Thursday morning, May 12, President Rüütel will take part in the Jõgeva County Development Conference at Kuremaa. On the same day, the President of the Republic will visit the Activization Centre for Vooremaa Local Governments at Voore, the Ulge Farm in the village of Saare, and the Siimusti Children's Home ''Metsatareke''. A tree the Head of state will plant in the Siimusti Park will remember the visit to Jõgeva County.

The President of the Republic will meet with the journalists who cover the visit to Jõgeva County at 11:45 in Kuremaa Palace, during the intermission of the Jõgeva County Development Conference.
