The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand

President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg received Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand Apichart Chinwanno who presented his Letter of Credence.

The President of the Republic pointed out that since Estonia was a EU member state there were now more possibilities to take part in multilateral cooperation between Asia and the enlarged Europe, and considered the participation in the work of various forums within the framework of the ASEM very important. President Rüütel noted that there were also possibilities for trustful and friendly cooperation within the United Nations Organisation.

In his address, the Head of State, on behalf of Estonia, thanked Thailand and its people for their assistance to Estonian citizens who suffered during the catastrophe in South and Southeast Asia at the end of December 2004.

In the words of Ambassador Chinwanno, Estonia has gained international attention as the most developed Baltic state having made an impressive progress in the field of policy, economy, and social issues, as well as in security. Apichart Chinwanno said that during the last five years the cooperation in tourism between Estonia and Thailand had grown considerably, and added that as the ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand he wished to promote cooperation between the two countries in many different fields.

President Rüütel wished the Ambassador success in his mission promoting the relations between Estonia and Thailand.
