The President of the Republic opened the 5th Joint Meeting of the Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council

President Rüütel today at the Conference Centre of Hotel Strand in Pärnu opened the 5th Joint Meeting of the Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council.

In his opening address, the President of the Republic said that he was very pleased to greet the participants of the already traditional joint meeting of the Baltic Assembly and the Nordic Council in Pärnu, the summer capital of Estonia.

The Head of State recalled the most important historical events in the Baltic cooperation. "Fifteen years ago, when the Baltic cooperation was designed, the goal was not only to act jointly in order to get rid of the legacy of the past, the cooperation also bore in itself and supported the future trends and developments of our states," the President of the Republic noted. "Under new conditions, now when the Baltic states belong to the European Union and NATO, we need to give our cooperation a new befitting the time meaning and develop new fields of cooperation," President Rüütel stressed.
