The President of the Republic sent a message of condolences to Japan

President Arnold Rüütel today in his letter to Emperor Akihito of Japan expressed on behalf of himself and the people of Estonia deepest condolences to the injured and the families of the victims of the April 25 train accident near Osaka.

The letter of condolences runs: "It was with deep sorrow that I learned of the terrible train accident in Osaka, where dozens of Japanese lost their lives. I wish you and your people strength in recovering from this severe tragedy.

Please convey my personal sympathy and the condolences of the entire Estonian nation to the injured and the families of the victims".
