23.03.2005

President Arnold Rüütel today sent an invitation to the President of the Republic of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga and to the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus to visit Estonia on March 29, on the day when a year ago the Baltic states became full members of NATO.

The President of the Republic stressed that NATO membership, but also that of the European Union has definitively secured the stability of the Baltic states and this has enhanced the security of every individual as well as of the whole region. NATO has an important role in guaranteeing our security.

"I believe that this symbolic day is just the right day for the presidents of the three Baltic states to meet and discuss cooperation between our countries, as well as other mutually interesting and topical issues," President Rüütel noted.
