The President of the Republic visited the Ukrainian Community Centre

President Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel visited the Ukrainian Community Centre in TallinnPresident Arnold Rüütel and Mrs. Ingrid Rüütel today afternoon visited the Ukrainian Community Centre in Tallinn.

At the Ukrainian Community Centre, the presidential couple was met by the Chairwoman of the Estonian Congress of Ukrainians Vira Konyk, the Elder of Ukrainian Greek Catholic congregation Anatoli Ljutjuk and the Ambassador of Ukraine in Estonia Mikola Makarevich who gave an overview of the Ukrainian Community's activities and plans for future.

Priest Volodymyr Balijenko and the Elder of congregation Anatoli Ljutjuk spoke about the history and activities of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. President Rüütel familiarised himself with the exhibition ''A poetical version of the Red Book of European Countries'' in the museum located at the community centre and listened to the recital of Timo Maran's poetry. The folklore ensemble Vidlunnja and soloists gave a concert.

The President of the Republic thanked the Ukrainian community for their activities and support to the restoration of independence in Estonia. President Rüütel noted that Estonia welcomed the Ukrainian reforms and was ready to contribute into fields where we had useful experience to offer.
